Phytosanitary status and productivity of soybean cultivars under different fungicidal protection systems in the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine
Abstract
Purpose. Scientific substantiation and comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of chemical and biological soybean fungicidal protection systems to improve crop phytosanitary conditions and enhance yield performance under the conditions of the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. The study was carried out during 2024–2025 in the Kremenchuk district of the Poltava region. A two-factor field experiment was arranged using a randomized block design with four replications (plot area 10 m²). The scheme included studying soybean cultivars Antratsyt and Annushka (Factor A) and seed treatment options (Factor B): control (water), chemical standard Maxim XL (1,0 L/t), and a biological complex Trichofit (2,0 L/t) + Phytocid (0,6 L/t) against the uniform background inoculation with Optimize 400 (1,8 L/t). Disease prevalence, development intensity, yield components (1000- seed weight, plant survival rate), hydrothermal coefficient (HTC), and post-harvest seed quality were monitored. Statistical processing and two-way ANOVA were executed in the R programming environment calculating LSD₀₅ and correlation matrices. Results. Under dry weather conditions in 2024 (HTC = 0.34) and insufficient moisture in 2025 (HTC = 0,70), initial seed infection ranged from 26,5% to 34,0%, dominated by fungal pathogens (20,0-25,5%). The biological composition Trichofit + Phytocid achieved high technical efficacy against root rots at 71,9-73,3%, equivalent to the chemical standard Maxim XL. Concurrently, biologicals displayed higher fungistatic activity (disease severity at the 3-4 leaf stage dropped to 0,6-0,8% compared to 1,1-1,6% for Maxim XL) and effectively controlled bacteriosis prevalence (down to 0,6-1,3%). Due to the absence of retardant stress and active growth stimulation, plant survival reached 93,0–97,0%, leading to a yield capacity increase of 36,0-46,0% over the control (up to 2,38-2,76 t/ha), compared to an 11,8-13,5% increase provided by the chemical protectant. Conclusions. The high ecological and agronomic efficiency of Trichofit and Phytocid biopreparations for soybean seed protection under hydrothermal stress conditions was proven. A prolonged post-effect on the seed quality of the new harvest was established: overall seed infection decreased to 16,5-21,5%, while laboratory germination increased to 88,0-92,0%.
